Day 2: Yangon
Morning tour of Yangon: After breakfast this morning tour Yangon's colonial style city centre and visit Sule Pagoda, which dates back some 2,000 years. You will also have a chance to visit Scott's Market where you can find anything from gems to clothing. Later visit the magnificent reclining Buddha at ChaukHtatGyi and make a photo stop at the Karawiek Hall - a hamsa bird shaped floating barge on Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake. Complete your first day in Myanmar with an extended visit to one of the world's most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda (this can also be visited at sunset).

Day 3: Yangon –Heho-Kalaw
Private transfer: After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for the domestic flight to Heho.Private transfer to Kalaw with sightseeing at Pindaya: On arrival proceed by road to Pindaya (40 miles) and visit the Pindaya Caves, a unique site housing thousands of Buddha images placed there by pilgrims over the centuries. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue on a narrow, winding and bumpy road (30 miles) through the Shan Hills to Kalaw, a delightful hill station, on the rim of the Shan Plateau, which is a market centre for ethnic minorities from surrounding regions. On arrival check in to your hotel.

Day 4: Kalaw
Full day exploring mountain villages: After breakfast set out with your guide on a gentle trek to the hill villages around Kalaw. Set off after breakfast to the Palaung villages of YwaThit and Tar Yaw located west of Kalaw on the rim of the mountains. Take time to visit their longhouses, mountain plantations and enjoy the scenic surroundings. Proceed to a view point which overlooks the whole mountain range for a picnic lunch. Later proceed to the Palaung village of HinKhar Khan before returning to your hotel in Kalaw.
For those seeking an active tour there is the option of an overnight trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake, staying overnight at a remote monastery in the Shan Hills - please ask for more details.

Day 5: Kalaw - Inle Lake
Private transfer: After breakfast this morning you will be transferred to NyaungShwe (40 miles).Optional Red Mountain Vineyard and cycling tour: Upon arrival in NyaungShwe there is the option to take a tour of the Red Mountain vineyard, owned by Pao ethnic group organization employing a genuine French wine maker to create some magnificent wines which are recognized as the best produced in Asia. After visiting the vineyard you can take a bicycle tour through Sugar cane and corn plantations and stop at some hot springs, before continuing to your lakeside hotel by boat.

Day 6: Inle Lake
Guided tour of Inle Lake with lunch at the Burmese Cat Cafe: After breakfast this morning set off on an excursion by boat which will include seeing the famous leg rowers, typical floating gardens, local methods of fishing, village life and magnificent scenery. Lunch will be served at the Burmese Cat Cafe, famous for its homemade cake & cookies. Enjoy eating as the locals do, on the floor and on low tables. Afterwards visits are made to PhaungdawOo Pagoda, the NgaPheKyaung Monastery which is famous for its jumping cats which have been trained by the monks, the weaving village of Inpawkhon and one of the local markets in the Inle Lake region (market days only).

Day 7: Inle Lake
Half day guided tour of Inle Lake: After breakfast you will be picked up from the hotel to depart by boat for the western shore of the lake, where you will find the beginning of a long stair path leading to the well hidden Inn Thein Pagoda complex. Here you will see one of the most amazing historical sights on the shore of the lake consisting of hundreds of small stupas overgrown by moss and vegetation. Continue on foot to a village nearby where several crops are grown in traditional ways. Walk in an easy pace along one of the many creeks, passing through rice fields to the village of Sae Ma. Here you will visit the primary school of the village and possibly meet the children and teachers to observe their way of learning and teaching. Today there is also the option to visit a local orphanage to present them with some stationary.Afternoon at leisure: After your morning's tour return to your hotel for some time at leisure.

Day 8: Inle Lake - Mandalay
Morning at leisure: This morning you are free to relax at your hotel.Private transfer: Early this afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for the domestic flight to Mandalay.Private transfer: Upon arrival in Mandalay you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 9: Mandalay
Full day tour of Mandalay area: After breakfast leave Mandalay for Amarapura, 10 miles out of the city, to visit Mahagandayon Monastery where more than a thousand monks live and study. Time permitting you will have the opportunity to observe the monks having their last meal of the day in total silence. Continue to the 200 year old U Bein teak bridge which was built in 1782 at the time when Amarapura was the capital. The next stop is a visit to see cotton and silk weavers whose ancestors used to weave beautiful robes for the royalties. The weaving of silk longyi is so intricate that they can only finish an inch a day. Then return to Mandalay for lunch at "Too Too", one of the best local Bamar restaurants where you will eat curry accompanied by a selection of seasonal vegetable dishes and rice. After lunch experience the sights and sounds of Mandalay including one of the most revered religious monuments in Myanmar, the Mahamuni Pagoda; the ShweInbin Monastery; the Golden Palace Monastery, a superb example of a traditional wooden building and Kuthodaw Pagoda the world's largest ‘book', made of marble.

Day 10:  Mandalay - Mingun–Bagan
Morning guided tour to Mingun: After breakfast you will take an hour's trip by boat up the Irrawaddy River to Mingun. Here you will visit the magnificent Mingun Bell, which is the world's largest un-cracked bell and weighs in at an impressive 90 tons. Afterwards visit with HsinbyumePaya as well as the unfinished MingunPaya, which was intended to be one of the world's largest chedis and was built, at least in part, by King BodawPaya.Private transfer: Early this afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for the domestic flight to Bagan.Private transfer: On arrival in Bagan you will be met by your guide who will transfer you to your hotel.

Day 11: Bagan
Full day guided tour of Bagan: After breakfast at your hotel set out to explore the most significant pagodas and temples of Bagan including Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine; Ku ByanukGyi, a temple with superb murals of Jataka scenes; Khay Min Ga Temple, noted for its panoramic view of the area's numerous monuments and Ananda Temple, with its four standing Buddha images. After lunch at a local restaurant, see one of Myanmar's most treasured handicrafts being made at a lacquerware craftsman's workshop in nearby Myinkaba village. You will continue to Manuha Temple, built in the Mon style in 1059 and follow on to Nanbaya Temple, a unique sandstone monument said to have been the palace of King Manuha. Finish the day at Bupaya Pagoda or MingalaZediStupa to watch the sunset over the famous Irrawaddy River.

Day 12: Bagan - Mount Popa - Bagan
Half day guided tour of Mount Popa: After breakfast you will drive for around 2 hours to visit Mount Popa which is an extinct volcano offering spectacular views over the surrounding countryside from its summit. Its shrine is dedicated to animist spirits known as "nats" and you will have time to climb the 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the peak. After time to explore you will have lunch in a local restaurant and then drive back to Bagan, stopping off to observe the workings of a toddy palm plantation.Afternoon at leisure: After this morning's tour return to your hotel for some time at leisure.Evening sunset cruise: This evening's finale is an excursion by private boat on the Irrawaddy River to watch the sun set over the waters of this mighty river. Drinks and snacks will be served whilst onboard.
